When I was young my mum and dad said son before you go to bed
You gotta brush your teeth and say your nightly prayers
I’d ask the lord for racing cars and fancy clothes and sweet guitars
Then tuck myself in tight and rest my head
And then I got older I went to school but I didn’t study much- I didn’t like the rules
I just hung out with all the cool kids everyday
We’d drink some beer out on the street and talk to girls and smoke some weed
And when I got home my mum and dad would say
You gotta get your shit together or you’re in for stormy weather

Then I grew up and lost my way I held up the local IGA
The police came and locked me up in jail
The judge he gave me 7 years, mama wiped away daddy's tears
In both their minds well that was the last nail
But I learned to read and write and cook
I studied hard, read every book, they let me out in 5 on good behaviour
I got a job down on the coast, cooking bacon eggs and toast
And started saving for a rainy day

Well I bought me that old racing car, these fancy clothes, this here guitar

Give yourself a second look, take a leaf out of this book
